Feel free to discuss your options with us here at Northern Beaches Dental in Mackay, especially if you have a fear or anxiety of coming to see us.  This is so that we can go over all the options available to you to make sure that the procedure can go as smoothly as possible.

Nitrous Oxide, or ‘happy gas’ or ‘laughing gas’, is available for both children and adults who are anxious about their dental visit or cannot cope with a procedure well enough for their dentist to complete it. We are committed to providing you with quality care and want you to be as comfortable as possible throughout your treatment.

Nitrous Oxide is colourless and odourless, it works quickly and is reversible using pure oxygen. It is considered a good treatment for anxious patients by providing them with a comforting and relaxing feeling.

Nitrous Oxide can be used on children, and is the preferred sedation method for those children who are nervous or anxious about a pending dental treatment. We will inform you of any associated risks before treatment, so that you can make an informed decision about the use of sedation on either yourself or your child.

Some side effects include nausea, headaches, shivering or sweating. This is usually because the amount that is taken in was too high in taken in too short amount of time. We slowly administer the gas in order to minimise these side effects from occurring.

After the gas is turned off, you will receive oxygen for several minutes to avoid any potential headaches that can occur.

Longer or more complex surgical procedures may require you to go under general anaesthesia in order for your dentist in Mackay to work uninterrupted.  This allows them to focus and get the procedure done. Examples where this may be required include multiple extractions or certain, complex wisdom tooth removals.

All treatment carries risks. Individual consultation is required with one of our practitioners to ensure that the treatment is right for you.
