The 5 steps of your emergency dental appointment in Mackay
When you have a dental emergency, you want to be able to get it resolved fast. Whether it’s a toothache that’s suddenly become worse, or a knocked out or chipped tooth that’s become loose due to a trip, accident or sporting injury, it’s painful.
And that’s the main focus of an emergency dental appointment in Mackay. The purpose is to help the patient to be pain-free by the end of the appointment. Follow-up treatments may be required, but hopefully they can be booked in during regular surgery time, once things are feeling easier.
Here at Northern Beaches Dental in Mackay, we do all we can to help our emergency patients walk out of the surgery with their immediate problem resolved. And while each case is different and unique, so we can’t say for sure what will happen at an emergency dental appointment in Mackay, these are the 5 steps we usually follow.
Our emergency dentist will take a comprehensive look at the damaged or infected area. They may need to take x-rays to get a full picture of what’s going on.
If you are in a lot of pain, our dentist can give you a local anaesthetic to help relieve the ache.
If a tooth has been knocked out, the damaged area will be sterilised, so as to prevent infection.
We may be able to give you a permanent fix for your problem at this appointment, or it may be necessary to provide a temporary stop gap. Either way, you should be able to walk away with a full set of teeth.
If you have an infected tooth that is beyond saving, our emergency dentist may need to extract it then and there. They will discuss your options for replacing the lost tooth and give you information about follow-up treatments.
Whether you are a registered patient with us or not, don’t let that stop you from setting up an emergency dental appointment in Mackay. We will always do our best to fit you in on the day you call, or you we may be able to pass you to our sister clinic in Walkerston.
